Cincinnati, Ohio: Pigs Have Wings: October 17–20, 2019

Our 20th convention proved to be the very last one hosted by a regional chapter, the decision having been made to create a national committee of volunteers to oversee all future conventions. Our hosts, the Flying Pigs of Cincinnati, turned it into an epic occasion, filled to overflowing with fun. The adventures started on Friday with an enjoyable riverboat cruise on the Ohio River, followed by an evening reception replete with browsing, sluicing, and music. During Saturday’s Riveting Talks, we learned (with great delight) about the establishment of a new Wodehouse archive: the P. G. Wodehouse Collection at Vanderbilt University. The afternoon concluded with the performance of yet another humorous NEWTS skit, “Porkopolis, a Porcine (and Human) Love Story.” Then it was on to another rousing banquet, at which a dazzling array of costumes showcased our members’ ingenuity, the Norman Murphy Award was bestowed upon the greatly deserving Neil Midkiff, and Maria and Dan provided a spellbinding musical entertainment. The Sunday morning brunch featured yet another wonderful and original skit: “How Pigs Have Wings,” starring members of the Flying Pigs. Their hilarious performance sent us on our way home wreathed in smiles. Who could ask for anything more?
