Not only Psmith but close to 150 TWS members went to Seattle to enjoy what the Angler’s Rest had on offer—and that was plenty. The small but perfectly formed chapter arranged a ferry trip across Puget Sound to Bainbridge Island, where intrepid Plummies enjoyed the sights and the shops, especially those with books in them. There was also a Seattle tour via monorail, led by principal organizer Tom Smith. Friday evening was possibly the most delicious reception of any convention as it was filled with desserts of many descriptions, and once again we were treated to PGW songs as only Maria and Dan could perform them. In a special nod to the date being Halloween, the Saturday talks were punctuated by readings from Mr. Punch’s Spectral Analyses, provided by Tony Ring. Tony and John Dawson also described the Globe Reclamation Project. The Anglers’ great coup was nabbing Wodehouse biographer Robert McCrum as a speaker. At the banquet, among other toasts to Absent Friends, Gary Hall paid tribute to Ed Ratcliffe, our beloved OM who had died earlier in the year. This did not dampen the occasion, though. After another enjoyable and costume-filled banquet and another delicious brunch enlivened by a NEWTS skit, we all left feeling replete and happy.
