The Wodehouse Society: A Celebration of Wit and Wisdom

A Guide to Wodehouse’s New York City and Long Island

November 11, 2025
Submitted by: Elin Woodger
We are very chuffed to announce the publication of A Guide to P. G. Wodehouse’s New York City and Long Island, by Norman Murphy with Amy Plofker. Covering 60 addresses in the city and five major locations on Long Island, including Remsenburg, the original booklet made a big hit at the society’s 2011 convention in Dearborn, and we thought it only right to bring it out again in conjunction with our convention on Long Island, Sitting Pretty in Garden City, in November 2026. Updated and expanded by Amy and Elin Woodger Murphy, Norman’s widow, the 48-page booklet includes some new pictures and a chronology of Plum and Ethel Wodehouse’s time on Long Island, as well as quotations galore.

We trust this guide (8.5″ tall X 5.5″ wide) will prove to be an interesting and prized resource for all Wodehouse fans who wish to visit the area in the U.S. most associated with Wodehouse, whether they do so in person or from the comfort of their armchairs. It is being published by Popgood and Groolley and sold on Amazon in countries worldwide; the U.S. list price is $12.99. If you are not an Amazon user, DM me for details on how to get a copy. As per Norman’s original wishes, all proceeds from the sale of this guide will benefit The Wodehouse Society.
