By 1993 convention attendance was topping 100; it has stayed solidly between 100 and 200 ever since, perhaps due to the realization within the society’s blossoming membership that a year without a convention was like a year without sunshine. Conventioneers were now arriving on Thursday to meet old friends and get an early jump on the weekend’s activities, which in this case included a pub crawl. Friday was spent touring the city, and the reception that night took on a raucous atmosphere, with singing and games (including an egg-and-spoon race) springing up everywhere. The talks were top-notch, and at the banquet our hosts regaled attendees with a delightful filmed skit based on the Story of the Prawns.
An impromptu Sunday brunch was held at a nearby diner, upon which most attendees departed, but a gang of 20 stayed on to see a performance of Oh, Lady! Lady!! This started a new habit, and now many Plummies stay on after a convention to do more fun stuff together, such is our difficulty in tearing away from each other.
