The Wodehouse Society: A Celebration of Wit and Wisdom

1985: Ithaca, NY

Ithaca, New York: October 19, 1985
Speakers: Father James Carruth, Walter S. White

April 1, 2025
Submitted by: The Wodehouse Society

Our third convention was held at Cornell University, where then-president Bob Hall was a professor. This gathering introduced more structure to the proceedings, as well as a larger attendance: 24! There was now a morning session and an afternoon one, both with tea breaks, and three papers were presented in addition to the business meeting, leaving the evening free for pure socializing. Father James Carruth, who presented two of the three papers, was from Zimbabwe, justifying the “International” label, and we have had attendees from overseas—especially from England—ever since.

See the full report of this convention in Plum Lines, Volume 6, No. 4 (November 1985)
